Who said winter was over?  There’s still some decent skiing to be had in Chamonix at least, as Boax Clothing founder Lorne Cameron proves in the photo above, taken this week on Grand Envers by Graham Pinkerton.

With the Aiguille du Midi the only remaining lift running, battling the crowds of Japanese tourists is inevitable and hopping glacial streams and scrambling up the ladders to exit the Mer de Glace is unavoidable.  But considering it’s the middle of May, it’s still worth a trip for some late-season turns in spring snow.

Some touring should be on the cards for the next couple of weeks, and with rain in town last night there should be some fresh snow to find up high.

Well here it is, the long awaited teaser for Candide Thovex’s new movie, “Few Words”.

We have been a fan of Candide’s since his early days, from 16-year-old X-Games competitor, to pipe dominator, to Freeride World Tour overall winner and beyond. Surely one of the most well-rounded yet understated skiers in the industry, and with the filming for this two year project drawing to a close we’re eagerly anticipating the full release this autumn.

Will this be another two-year let-down à la Seth Morrison’s “The Ordinary Skier”? Or more over-the-top heli porn like “The Art Of Flight”? We’re betting neither. And with Boax Clothing team member Skye Darden heavily involved in the project in logistics and kicker shaping, you know this will be high on your list for films to watch out for in 2012.

The 10th annual Vans Wängl Tängl went down last week at Boax Clothing team rider Mario Wanger’s home mountain of Mayrhofen, Austria.  As with previous years the Penken Park crew laid on some amazing new features and the comp took a head-to-head team battle format.  Mario’s local team – The Djudes – only made it through a few rounds of competition but Mario was stoked on his run including back-to-back 1080s, both frontside and backside.  Check the edit.

We’re not in the habit of regurgitating content that has been posted extensively across the web, but this film makes a very worthy exception.  Missed by many this winter, 2011′s full length film “While We Can” by Andreas Olofsson & Imaginary Trace documents the current state of freestyle skiing, with input from the riders on the ever-present tech-vs-style debate and some words of wisdom from Boax Clothing‘s own Skye Darden on the current competition & judging structure.  The film is definitely worth a watch even if you aren’t a freestyle skier, or a skier at all.  Beautifully edited, this really stands out from the normal format of in-your-face films being pumped out recently.

Introducing the man who started it all, Lorne Cameron.

With a background in software engineering, photography and ski retail, Lorne created Boax Headwear as a personal project in the spring of 2006.  During a bout of serious illness from 2007-2008 Boax provided an important focus, and with a characteristically painstaking attention to detail Lorne grew the brand into the Boax Clothing you see today.
