It’s that time of year again. New gear has been bought, snow is falling and the first lifts are opening. Time to get stoked with some ski porn. But who has nailed it this year and who has come up short…?

All I Can (Sherpas Cinema)
All I Can (Sherpas Cinema)
Our pick of the year, from new all-Canadian outfit Sherpas Cinema. Great filming, a good mix of styles, and JP Auclair once again proving he’s still got what it takes with one of the best urban segments of all time.

One For The Road (TGR)
One For The Road (TGR)
A close second from TGR this year. Lots of big lines, standout segments from Todd Ligare and Ian McIntosh.

The Grand Bizarre (Poorboyz)
The Grand Bizarre (Poorboyz)
Yawn. Yet another utterly mediocre effort from the once-great Poorboyz Productions. Jonny DeCesare really needs to get back in charge.

After Dark (Level 1)
After Dark (Level 1)
Definitely a love-it-or-hate-it film. In one word: jib. Any other year I’d be saying Hornbeck’s urban segment was the best of the year but it’s not a patch on JP’s in All I Can.

Attack of La Nina (MSP)
Attack of La Nina (MSP)
Our love-hate relationship with MSP movies continues, ranking “just OK” this year amongst the heavy-hitters. Too long, too much talking, too many “jokes”, but some decent skiing.

The Ordinary Skier (1242)
The Ordinary Skier (1242)
We were really looking forward to seeing Seth Morisson ski some classic Chamonix lines but this turned out to be by far the most boring offering this year, and not really worth rewatching. Stick to AK Seth.

Retallack The Movie (Inspired Media)
Retallack The Movie (Inspired Media)
Admittedly we are not fans of Tanner Hall in the slightest, but this early-season release was quite watchable, with a mix of jibby tree lines and some bigger stuff. Only one reggae track and no T-Hall monologue were welcome surprises.

Being There (Field Productions)
Being There (Field Productions)
Another solid effort from Norwegian outfit Field Productions that will get missed my most people but definitely worth checking out. Excellent urban riding and filming, but I think it’s safe to say that massive groomed-landing kickers are now officially played-out.

Strictly Business (Unity Productions)
Strictly Business (Unity Productions)
The UK’s own Unity Productions step things up again this year with their third annual film which can be watched online for free here. Good to see some homegrown talent and the filming and editing improving every year.
